It's ok

-I'm starting to get the feeling that everyone is using the same type of Oscillation from FL studio. Third song from the competition that I have reviewed using the same type. It does sound good but you didn't do enough to make it sound above and beyond. The amount of time that you worked on this shows that.

-The bass and snare are very deep and hit hard. It makes the melody sound better than it would have otherwise. As said before the 3xOsc sounds great but it seems like it's the standard and you need to do a lot to make it sound better than everyone else's submissions for this competition. The clap was alright but i'm not sure if you can do much with it considering you have to use the stock sounds from FL. The cymbal however sounds suprisingly crisp.

-The song is very repetitive in the whole of things. It seems to just cycle around the melody without too much variation. It does come in nicely with successive beats coming in louder and louder but when it reaches it's peak it just stayed stagnant for a bit before you brought in the clap. You could remove part of it or add something to make it sound better. The fruity part introduced at :45 is a welcome change but it's about all that was different.

-Getting back to the snares you used. I think they were excellent choices to go along with the bass. Throughout the song they were in rythm with each other and complimented each other nicely. It was the main focal point of the song and it sounded great. It was just a bit repetitive using it the entire time without too much else overlayed.

DjAbbic responds:

Well, about the osc, I'm not a pro at 3xOsc, and I have no idea how to make it sound 'above and beyond'. Thanks for the review and comments though :)

Those darn loops...

-Doing their loopty-loops with the sound. The only problem was that it didn't loop that well. The end abruptly dropped off and it started back up at the beginning. Leave more letdown time at the end to get the song to sound relatively close at the beginning and end of the loop.

-I found it to be really good otherwise. It has a very catchy melody that pumps you up and makes you want to get right into something. The bass kick was just at the right amount as to not just overpower the melody.

-The break in the middle added a nice touch to an otherwise progressive song. It gave it that break to add additional elements and make the song more multifaceted.

Good start

-I never even knew there was a genre called fruity core. I'd heard music similar to this but I just assumed it fell into another techno genre. I guess I learned something today.

-The main melody stayed very consistent with increasing levels of bass. You layered this very nicely since everything flows together. The vocals are inserted it seems at random but the repeated line doesn't have any drawbacks as far as becoming stagnant and repetitive. You did plenty of variation around it to make it sound good.

-Even though there were parts that stayed almost the same throughout you added so many additional layers that were very dynamic. Transitioning from a fast paced fruity sound to a slow paced more vibrant sound in parts with vocals.

-I'm going to have to gripe about the percussion. It was very weak and was drowned out for most of the song. You could hear it well in the intro but even then it doesn't sound that good. Try using something different in my opinion.

-It's a good start but a few tweaks here and there would help it sound better.

I-Saved-The-World responds:

Thanks very much for the review. :) fruity core isnt really a genre, it just means that i was using all the stock effects from FL studio to produce it. Sadly, this is also one of the reasons the drum kit sounds so... blahhh. xD

Again, thanks for your review :)

Nice

-I stumbled across this in my time browsing the audio portal and the name caught my eye. The power rangers theme was the best part of the whole show. It was so action-y and really brought you into it.

-I like your darker twist to it and keeping the original melody was a great idea in my opinion.

wilb0b responds:

lol yeah and its only a half step down the original tuning!

It's ok

-It would work great for an intro that is really really short but that's it. There isn't any dynamic things that happen. It's just a short build and it would of been nice if you could of done a little more with this.

Kazmo responds:

Describe 'dynamic'.

Thanks.

Utterly Amazing

-It's an interesting genre of music that isn't showcased here too much. Usually people just make straight techno and upload here. I personally enjoyed listening to this. I had to cycle through this three times just so I could review all the aspects of it. Main reason audio doesn't get many quality reviews but I don't mind listening to the same track over several times.

-I'm quite curious where you got the vocals from. Did you get someone to do them for you or are they computer generated? Anyways it's quite high quality and even though there is only three lines used throughout the entire song you did a very good job at mixing the audio and reworking it for the different areas. It allowed the little amount of lines to sound like so many more. The lyrics themselves are quite interesting in themselves. They make dancing with someone else sound like a dark game in my opinion.

-I'm not sure why everyone keeps telling you that the pulse waves are too loud or they hurt their ears. Even if you listen to it with the volume pumped way up(the way it's supposed to be) it sounds great. The way you mixed it with the synths was so well done. Several times you even adjusted or broke up the wave to keep it interesting. It's the main focal point of the whole genre of techno anyway to have pulsing waves so why complain about it if you don't like it. Also having such high quality even pulses leads me to believe that you either made sure you mastered this several times or you are just using some really good programs.

-There were so many great sounding transitions throughout that really helped smooth things over. There is nothing worse than an awful sounding transition that leaves a scowl on your face. I had to listen to no such thing here. When the vocals originally came in you had a nice voice build-up which made the first word sound so good and crisp. You don't see that kind of detail too often when someone introduces vocals. It does such a good job of easing you into the new element without having just the abrupt beginning of the word that usually happens. Then you ended that same first vocalized part with several repurcussions which helped add a nice effect and drop it back off into just the pulses before anything really began.

-At 0:58 you really had a nice drop off and build into the clapping effect which in it's own right was an excellent choice on your part. A simple clap by itself isn't so great but it's the way that you added it as the icing on the cake for the pulse that you incorporated so nicely into the song already to begin with. The several stutters in the beat gave it an edge of build-up that you used to drop the clap off. Yes, the clap was really nice but if you kept it on the rest of the song it would have lost all of it's uniqueness. Again you used that nice introduction to the vocals at 1:38 that I love so much. Even though the line was repeated like I said earlier it was still fresh to me. It was also dropped off nicely with the effect used at 2:05. I'm not sure what you used to create that sound but it was really nice.

-The end wasn't as effect driven as the rest of the song but it's due to the nice fading effects you used. Slowly shedding layers of the song off to bring it to a final close. Firstly dropping the synths and making it just the pulsing beat. Following that up with the wind howl to dissipate it. I was very pleased with how you were able to make a complete song cycle without having any abrupt parts to it. You always had nice build-ups or drop-offs to things.

-I'm really glad that you decided to use the user feedback to make a fixed version of the song that sounds leaps and bounds better than the original. No, your new version isn't going to be showered with love from everyone but to me you used that feedback excellently and made this song as good as it could be. It's why I do what I do. Well that and that I really enjoy doing it. Also if you read all of this it's an achievement in itself since it's taken up all of the available space that I can review in.

I definitely read it all haha, I like feedback. Even negative, as long as its justified, and from people with production knowledge. Appreciated man, cheers.

glad you like it too. and the vocals are my girlfriend

Great Job

-Nice well paced intro that had enough pump in the bass. The speed increase after the first thirty seconds I didn't feel was needed. It was a great way to add variety to it but you could of added an instrument for that part instead of just speeding up the pace. You did however bring it back to the nice even pace that worked so well at the beginning. You were able to work in many synths and pads that worked really well as a replacement for the bass towards the middle build-up.

-That instrument that makes the tinging noise that you implemented later on in the song. That's something that would of been better implemented earlier in the song. It works so much better and mixing things together into a blender than the sped up part you did in the beginning.

-The drop off of everything except for the drums at 3:45 for just a couple of seconds was a great way to signify that the song was coming to a close and opened up the door for a nice ending. You brought everything to a higher level to close it out. The broken glass bottle effect at the very end was a great touch too. It's one of those unique things that you can use to create a signature. It has an interesting sound and you don't see things like that unless it's in some random rap music. I'd like to see that sort of effect in other submissions.

-It's not often that you see someone do that many reworkings of the same song. Three predecessors to this one means that several times you made something and weren't happy with it so you strived to improve it and make it better. I'm not going to agree with everything you came up with in the final version but it is by far the best overall.

jpgregorio responds:

thanks, i did that many versions because i felt that there was something missing,
now im happy with it :D
by "broken glass bottle effect" you are probably referring to the reverse delay effect on the bottle, right? nonetheless i'm glad you liked it. thx again. bye.

I'm a pretty laid back person. Like some things about the new design but still like a lot of things from the old one :/
